Line of Duty star supports dementia charity’s fundraising event

An award-winning actress has supported the Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk initiative.

Vicky McClure will be taking part in one of many events taking place around the country this autumn, with the aim of raising money towards dementia research.

Memory Walks are organised annually by the charity, with tens of thousands of people coming together at around 30 locations nationwide.

The fundraiser has been backed by Ms McClure, who is perhaps best known for her role in the BBC police drama Line of Duty and at present is starring in Sunday night thriller The Secret Agent.

The 33-year-old has close links with the Alzheimer’s Society; her grandmother was diagnosed with dementia in 2013 and lost her battle against the condition the following year.

This autumn, the actress will be joining her mum, sister, nephew and the family dogs to take part in the walk through the streets of her hometown of Nottingham.

“My Nana was such a stylish, confident and proud woman before the dementia took hold and it was heart breaking when she was unable to recognise me and my family,” she said.

“Memory Walk is such a worthwhile event and this year will be my sixth in a row. It’s a great opportunity to get together with your family, enjoy time walking together and remember loved ones – I would love to see everyone putting their best foot forward to support Alzheimer’s Society.”

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips and Jamie Anderson, son of Thunderbirds creator Gerry, will also be taking part in walks in September and October.

Families who would like to sign up for their own local event should visit the Alzheimer’s Society’s website.
